Beyond the Frame
Saugat Malla
Acclaimed Contemporary Actor & Producer
I'm Saugat Malla — a highly acclaimed contemporary Nepalese film actor and producer. Born in Nawalparasi and based in Kathmandu, I have been active in the Nepalese acting arena since joining the Aarohan Theatre Group in 2001, marking more than two decades of dedication to the craft.
I made my feature film debut in 2008 with *Kagbeni*, which was one of Nepal's first digital films. However, it was my breakthrough portrayal of the legendary character "Haku Kale" in the 2012 action-crime blockbuster *Loot* that skyrocketed my career and redefined character acting and speech delivery in the Nepali film industry.
Over the years, I have established myself as a method actor who is willing to undergo extreme physical and psychological transformations for roles, as seen in *Agastya: Chapter 1*, *Kabaddi Kabaddi*, and *Soongava*. My work has been selected as Nepal's official entry for the Academy Awards and has premiered at prestigious international venues like the Venice Film Festival.
I believe that acting is a journey of continuous learning. Having completed my Diploma in Theatre from Gurukul School of Theatre under the mentorship of Sunil Pokharel, I strive to bridge the gap between theatrical depth and cinematic realism.
